This three year old startup has begun from the point which is the limit for most companies, the Sky. Having a wide range of clientele from real estate behemoths to pacesetters in the renewable energy sector in India, Delhi based startup WedoSky serves his clients by providing them valuable data by using drones.
"We have built software that converts aerial intelligence captured by the drones into comprehensible information which they can use to make data-driven decisions," says Jaspreet Makkar, founder of the data analytics startup. With a team of amazing drone enthusiasts, the 26-year-old has been piloting a new narrative for these UAVs - one where they are creating real impact across a wide range of industries, from renewable energy to mining to even insurance.
Modus Operandi
"After selecting the area that needs to be mapped, the drones are auto-programmed to fly over it and click thousands of images, But, since it is tough to extract information from this vast cache of pictures, they by itself hold little value. This is where we step in" says Makkar. WedoSky installs the image onto a SaaS platform called VisualAI where it is processed to generate clean reports for the clients.
VisualAI, the platform developed by WeDoSky, tries to address a key challenge that most applications of drones face: difficulty in extracting data from thousands of aerial images. the platform helps drone users with no technical knowledge to make sense of such images and extract consumable intelligence, founder Jaspreet Makkar said.
"The entire process of generating intelligence from the air is beautiful," says jaspreet. Once the required permissions are through, his team visits the site and does a one-time geolocation survey. Then a drone flies over the property to capture images and sensory data. Through VisualAI, this raw information is converted into intelligence for the end users. Most of the company's clients operate in real estate and mining.
Wherewithal
Profitable from day one of operations, according to the startup, it remained bootstrapped for the first two years and finally raised seed capital at the end of 2017. Participating investors in the round included former LinkedIn Director and Wigzo COO Hetal Sonpal and NRI startup India Fund, among others.
Prior to this, Makkar had worked with drones during his brief stint at a robotics-defence startup, realizing the potential it holds for the commercial sector as well. "It was during this time that I saw a lot of inefficiencies in industries like solar energy and mining where decisions were driven by human experience than data," he says.
In its initial days, having association and partnership with major property portals like commonfloor and PropTiger proved a boon for its marketing techniques. Since then, the startup's customer list has included Tata AIG, ACG Cement, PWC and even the Ministry of Coal.
